The exhibition is organised by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in collaboration with Tate Modern.
‘Frida: The Making of an Icon’ will showcase more than 30 of Kahlo’s most iconic works, introducing her ‘many selves’ as the dedicated wife, the intellectual, the modern artist and the political activist.
Alongside treasured garments, jewellery, photographs and memorabilia, the exhibition will include more than 200 works by Kahlo’s contemporaries and by artists she inspired from later generations, celebrating her lasting impact on those who continue to reimagine and reclaim her remarkable story.
The show will culminate with ‘Fridamania’, exploring Kahlo’s transformation into a global brand through more than 200 commercial objects encompassing her art, image, style and persona.
The exhibition also offers insight into the transformative power of Kahlo’s life and work, the notion of fandom and the diversity of communities who claim her as their own.
