Laguna Art Museum will open 'de la Torre Brothers: The Tipping Point' on August 1, with the exhibition scheduled to run through January 24, 2027. The installation centers on a monumental banquet-length table and layers glass works with selected objects, chandeliers, suspended forms and floor-level elements, creating what the museum describes as an environment that rewards close looking.
The project brings together collaborative artist brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre, whose mixed-media practice includes blown glass sculpture, installation and lenticular photomurals. According to the museum, their work reflects a layered aesthetic shaped by bicultural identity and life on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. The exhibition is organized by Laguna Art Museum.
The museum says the installation places visitors inside a lavish dinner scene and uses inherited forms of display and status as a point of departure. In the exhibition text, the de la Torre brothers are said to encourage reflection on society’s fascination with wealth, abundance and consumption, and on the ways people participate in systems of excess. Rather than treating the gallery as a passive viewing space, the installation is described as an experiential setting in which visitors move through the work as active participants.
Einar and Jamex de la Torre have worked together since the 1990s. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1963 and 1960, respectively, they moved to Dana Point, California, as children, according to the museum’s artist information. Their collaborative practice has been shown internationally and has included major public art projects. The museum notes that their honors include the USA Artists Fellowship, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Award.
Laguna Art Museum’s announcement places the exhibition among a group of current and upcoming programs on view at the institution. The museum is also presenting 'Frank Cuprien: For the Love of the Sea' and 'Andy Moses: Into the Light' through the summer and early fall, while 'Latest and Greatest: New Work at Laguna Art Museum' remains ongoing. The museum’s Art + Nature 2026 projects are also in view as part of a broader slate of exhibitions and public programs.
A companion program, 'The Tipping Point Exclusive Walkthrough', is scheduled for August 2 from 11:00 a.m. to noon. The museum says the guided walkthrough will offer an in-depth exploration of the artists’ layered sculptures and installations, including their use of glass, mixed media, pop culture, religion and social commentary. Advance registration is recommended, and the program is listed at $40 for members and $50 for non-members.
