The Autumn Collection Exhibition—translated from the Japanese title as 'In Memory of Days Gone By — Collection Artists, Works and Photographic Materials'—began on September 15, 2026, and runs through November 29.
Its featured section presents photographic materials that the museum rarely displays, shown with related artists and artworks.
The broader collection display traces developments in 19th- and 20th-century art from Impressionism through post-Pop art, while highlighting artists connected with Kagoshima, including Seiki Kuroda, Takeji Fujishima and Eisaku Wada.
The exhibition also includes Yayoi Kusama’s oil painting 'RED-DOTS', newly added to the collection in the previous fiscal year.
The photographic-materials section is organized around posthumous representations of Saigō Takamori, photographs connected to painter Hashiguchi Goyō, and images of painter Eisaku Wada’s family and later life.
Named works in the display include Hashiguchi Goyō’s 'Kono Bijin', Seiki Kuroda’s 'Shōnan Landscape', Raphael Collin’s preparatory design for the Odéon ceiling, Tanken Kimura’s 'Kirin on a Pine', and Chūnosuke Niino’s 'Guardian Lion-Dog'.
