Some of Falk’s embroidered canvases first appeared by chance.
Around 500 works, representing 60 years of work, were in Falk’s apartment in Gothenburg, stacked on shelves and along the walls. His imagery centers on frontal, mask-wearing figures built through dense, luminous colour and a combination of embroidery, painting and textile techniques.
Embroidery is presented as a way of thinking in colour, form and connections, balanced and conveyed through soft textile. Falk pushed a nearly biological growth force further in the series ‘Fraktaler’ from the early 2020s.
Artistic resonances around Falk are described as visual kinships rather than influences; he has worked nearly in isolation. Falk describes art as a collaboration between the maker and the work, saying that one must listen humbly to what the work wants.
