The exhibition 'Om det fula och det vackra: Johan Turi, Outi Pieski och Johanna Minde' runs from 5 September 2026 to 24 April 2027. It is described as the first exhibition in more than 100 years to show Johan Turi’s drawings.
Turi’s detailed depictions of North Sámi traditions are presented with Outi Pieski’s sculpture, painting and photography. Pieski’s contribution includes hanging sculptures made with shawl fringes and a research project on ládjogahpir, the women’s red horned hat.
The exhibition also includes architect and duojár Johanna Minde’s reinterpretation of a clever wooden stool created by Turi and now held in the Nordiska museet collection.
The seven-part seminar series 'Sápmi och dess kulturhistoria' runs through April 2027. Initiated by Kin, the series responds to the final report of the Truth Commission for the Sámi People, scheduled for presentation on 30 September.
The series is made in collaboration with Harald Gaski and Várdduo: the Centre for Sámi Research at Umeå University, Tjállegoáhte Författarcentrum Sápmi, Stockholm University of the Arts and HDK-Valand.
Turi is regarded as an Indigenous philosopher and an important source of inspiration for Sámi cultural revitalisation.
