'På andras axlar. Lars von Trier kuraterar' is scheduled for 10 October 2026 through 24 January 2027.
The exhibition is curated by Danish film director Lars von Trier, who turned 70 in 2026; over more than 40 years, he has renewed film art by challenging conventions, reinterpreting genres, and combining artistic experimentation with broad appeal.
At the exhibition’s centre is Vilhelm Hammershøi’s monumental 'Fem porträtt', painted in 1901 and described as having exerted an almost magical attraction on Trier. At 19, Trier travelled to Stockholm specifically to see the painting at the Thiel Gallery.
Taking 'Fem porträtt' as its starting point, the exhibition connects other artworks, documents, personal objects and films with texts by Trier to offer insight into how these sources influenced his own creative work. Works by Caspar David Friedrich, Paul Gauguin, Carl Fredrik Hill, Edvard Munch, Ejnar Nielsen, August Strindberg, Rudolph Tegner, Jens Ferdinand Willumsen, Per Kirkeby and Trier himself are shown alongside Hammershøi.
Per Kirkeby contributed visual elements to Trier’s films 'Breaking the Waves' (1996), 'Dancer in the Dark' (2000) and 'Antichrist' (2009). The exhibition was developed in collaboration with Willumsens Museum in Denmark, where it was shown in summer 2026.
