The opening program includes a members-only curator-led walkthrough from 3–4pm, an art talk from 4–5pm with artist Carl Cheng and curators Alex Klein and Amanda Sroka, and a public reception from 5–8pm. The opening festivities include music, food, and drinks.
Organized by The Contemporary Austin, ‘Nature Never Loses’ is the last stop on its international tour—a fitting homecoming for an L.A.-based artist whose work was exhibited in 1998 at the Santa Monica Museum of Art. The exhibition frames human relationships with nature through Cheng’s assertion that “nature never loses,” while underscoring the possibility of imagining alternative tools and creative solutions to mitigate manmade problems.
‘Early Warning System’ is dated 1967–2024.
Amia Yokoyama’s multimedia Los Angeles-based practice explores negotiations between metamorphosis, hybridity, collisions of the virtual and physical selves, and inevitable moments of transformation and breakdown.
