Robilant in London has opened its inaugural exhibition, 'Nor here, Nor there', a group presentation of contemporary artists that includes Hung Fai, Yoan Capote, Isaac Chong Wai, Raya Kassisieh and Vittorio Marella. The show is on view from 28 May to 7 August 2026 at the gallery’s Dover Street space.
The exhibition is framed around conditions of recognition and ambiguity. According to the gallery, the participating artists work within a “liminal field of recognition,” creating images, bodies and landscapes that can feel familiar without settling into a fixed point in memory. Robilant says the artists use painting, sculpture and mixed media to sustain that uncertainty rather than resolve it.
The gallery’s own description positions the show as an attempt to think through the speed at which visual language now circulates. It notes that recognition can come before lived experience, and that people may identify spaces, images or figures without being able to anchor them to personal memory. The works in 'Nor here, Nor there' are presented as a response to that condition, while resisting what the gallery calls its “flattening effects.”
Hung Fai is one of the artists highlighted by Robilant in connection with the exhibition. The Hong Kong-based artist, born in 1988, works with ink painting through a combination of classical Chinese and Western elements. Robilant describes his practice as one that revisits traditional techniques through a conceptual lens, extending the boundaries of ink art.
Among the works featured are pieces from Hung’s series 'The Six Principles of Chinese Painting - Transmission', made in collaboration with his father, the landscape artist Hung Hoi. The gallery says the series engages with “transmission,” a cornerstone of traditional Chinese painting as defined by the 6th-century artist and writer Xie He, and examines questions of intergenerational relationships, authorship and the balance of authority between parents and children.
Robilant’s work page for Hung Fai explains that 'The Six Principles of Chinese Painting - Transmission XXVI (with Hung Hoi)' and 'The Six Principles of Chinese Painting - Transmission XXVIII (with Hung Hoi)' are both in 2026, made with ink and colour on paper. For 'Transmission XXVIII', the listed dimensions are 82 x 180 cm; for 'Transmission XXVI', 97 x 180 cm. The gallery says these works are built through a multi-stage process in which Hung asks his father to paint a landscape in red cinnabar, then traces it through soaked rice paper with black ink, allowing the image to pass between layers.
The exhibition page states that 'Nor here, Nor there' is being presented at Robilant, 38 Dover Street, London W1S 4NL, with opening hours Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm.
