Representation of David Hartt has been announced, and his first solo exhibition with Bortolami will open in Spring 2028.
Hartt’s exhibition ‘David Hartt: Peripheries’ will be on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from 25 September 2026 through 7 February 2027.
Hartt works across Jacquard woven tapestries, film, sculpture and landscape design, foregrounding the built environment and relating plant biodiversity to the social and cultural histories of human diasporas.
Recent tapestry images include resilient plants growing between the cracks of ruins, adventive species beside endemic flora, and historical landscapes depicted by artists before the invention of photography.
Born in Montréal in 1967 and based in Philadelphia, Hartt explores how historic ideas and ideals persist or transform over time. His research draws on art history, anthropology and botany, while recent works have examined biodiversity and the migration of landscapes in relation to the social and cultural histories of human diasporas.
