‘The Cicada Shell of the 21st Century’ is a video installation in which Sugita uses a science-fiction narrative.
It also questions the criteria underlying the selection of “good” traits and the exclusion of others when eggs, sperm, embryos, or genes are selected and manipulated.
Born in 2002, Sugita is enrolled in the Advanced Art Expression program at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts.
Sugita researches problems occurring in society and deeply rooted prejudices, fusing them with unreal images and expressing them as installations that use the entire space to pose questions to viewers.
