Galerie Rudolfinum in Prague will present ‘Crested/mâcistan: Tanya Lukin Linklater and Duane Linklater’, the artists’ first major joint exhibition in Europe, from 1 October 2026 to 3 January 2027.
Bringing together sculptures, installations and paintings, the exhibition draws on Tanya Lukin Linklater and Duane Linklater’s experiences as First Nations people from North America. Its works address questions that shape present-day and historical Indigenous life: the ownership of ancestral belongings, the politics of land and trade, and the toll of erased histories. Elemental forces, bodies and objects figure in works that consider reparation, healing and the building of new worlds.
Water provides the exhibition’s central point of reference. The title ‘Crested/mâcistan’ speaks of water as a source of community in response to Galerie Rudolfinum’s position along the Vltava. The project connects waterways in the Czech lands and the Americas as routes through which objects and knowledge have moved between peoples. Czech glass beads are sewn into that story, while rivers and oceans are also acknowledged as carriers of colonial expansion and Indigenous dispossession.
The exhibition traces these circulations through listening, handling, teaching and care. It will include works from the artists’ solo presentations at the project’s partner institutions, as well as pieces presented in dialogue by the two artists.
‘Crested/mâcistan’ is a collaboration between Galerie Rudolfinum, Vienna Secession, Kunsthalle Bielefeld and Portikus in Frankfurt am Main. Curated by Julia Bailey and Hana Janečková, the Prague presentation will also feature a new site-specific collaboration created especially for Galerie Rudolfinum.
