In Autumn 2026, the first international institutional solo exhibition of Julia Isídrez will be presented.
Rooted in ceramic traditions passed down through generations of women in Itá, Isídrez learned the craft from her mother, Juana Marta Rodas.
Her practice uses local clay and long-standing Guaraní techniques that were gradually adapted over time, with inherited processes ranging from shaping to firing and fumigation underpinning her work.
Hybrid dinosaur-like figures and multi-headed spherical amphibians populate her sculptures; the institution describes these fantastical creatures as chimeras that remain resonant with popular traditions and folklore.
The exhibition frames Isídrez’s clay sculptures in relation to cultural debates about indigeneity, identity politics and craft.
The exhibition is curated by Salma Tuqan and Niall Ó Faircheallaigh, assisted by Klara Szafrańska.
