Dart Gallery will launch a new solo collection by Colin Willey on 11 September, bringing together 19 plein-air paintings made during recent months of outdoor work around the South Hams.
Willey has been setting up his easel in the region to capture favourite spots, with Dartmouth, Dittisham, Hope Cove and Salcombe featuring across the new works. The collection will be available to view in the gallery from Friday 11 September.
Several titles specify the places that appear in the paintings. ‘White sail at Dartmouth’ is included in the selection, as is ‘High viewpoint, Dittisham’. The latter names a Dittisham viewpoint, while ‘Splat cove, Salcombe’ identifies a site in Salcombe. ‘Summer at Warfleet’ is also among the 19 paintings.
The broader group includes further works titled ‘Sailing at Dittisham’, ‘View down to Hope Cove’, ‘Red boat at Warfleet’ and ‘Walking at low tide, Dittisham’. Other paintings in the collection are titled ‘Morning light at South Sands’, ‘High tide at South Sands’, ‘Blackpool sands through the trees’ and ‘Above Blackpool Sands’.
