Doyle will hold an auction of Latin American Art on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 11am. The sale is a featured section of the September 30 ‘Post-War & Contemporary Fine Art’ auction and will present paintings, drawings, sculpture and prints by artists of the 20th and 21st centuries representing Central and South America and the Caribbean.
Artists named for the sale include Angel Botello, Marisol Escobar, Edgar Negret, Diego Rivera, Ricardo Martínez de Hoyos, Francisco Zúñiga and Sénèque Obin. Cuban artists Manuel Mendive, Roberto Fabelo, Juan Roberto Diago and Antonio Gattorno are also listed.
A group of paintings and sculpture by Manuel Mendive, identified as Cuban and born in 1944, is featured in the sale. Mendive’s work draws on Afro-Cuban spirituality, mythology and Yoruba traditions. His dreamlike compositions often feature human, animal and spiritual figures rendered in a distinctive, richly symbolic style.
Marisol, the Venezuelan-American artist and sculptor who lived from 1930 to 2016, is also represented. The sale information states that Marisol connected Pop to Pre-Colombian art and Surrealism. It notes that, after her mixed-media sculptures received early public acclaim in the 1960s, she moved on to a series of vividly colorful figurative works on paper in the 1970s. Her 1974 work ‘King of Hearts’ is described as “a dreamy silhouette, both bright and mysterious.”
The Latin American Art section lists six current lots. A work by Marisol Escobar, from the Alvia G. Golden Living Trust, carries an estimate of $6,000–$9,000. Works by Antonio Asis and Roberto Fabelo are estimated at $6,000–$9,000 and $8,000–$12,000, respectively. The listed estimate for a work by Gustavo Montoya is $12,000–$14,000; a work by Sénèque Obin is estimated at $2,000–$4,000; and a work by Manuel Mendive is estimated at $8,000–$12,000.
The exhibition is scheduled for September 26, 27 and 28, from noon to 5pm daily. On September 28 at 1pm, Angelo Madrigale will lead an informal tour of the exhibition, free and open to the public.
