Marisol Escobar

United States, 1930–2016

Venezuelan-American sculptor born in Paris in 1930, she became a prominent figure in Pop Art during the mid-1960s through distinctive large-scale wooden tableaux combining assemblage, surrealism, and folk art. Her work frequently incorporated her own image as a deconstructive feminist strategy. After periods of relative obscurity, her work has undergone major critical reassessment.
