Anna Viebrock and Jan Philipp Gloger will appear in conversation at mumok’s Level 0 on Saturday, 12 September 2026, at 5 pm. Admission to ‘Eine Bühne im Museum – Anna Viebrock im Gespräch’ is free, with online registration required for a ticket.

The event begins from the prologue to ‘Terminal Piece’ on mumok’s entrance level, which Viebrock has staged as a Gesamtkunstwerk with works from the mumok collection. Viebrock, described as an internationally renowned stage designer, will be joined by Gloger, artistic director of the Volkstheater Wien.

Their discussion will consider how spaces—including displays, installations and stage sets—shape the perception of art. Viebrock and Gloger will explore how rooms and presentations form narratives, create atmospheres and can reflect social realities. The conversation will also address connections and differences between theatre and museums, as well as scenography as an artistic practice.

‘Terminal Piece’ is an exhibition in five acts centred on Kate Millett’s eponymous 1972 installation. Millett is identified as an artist, activist and author. The installation is described as the first acquisition for the collection under mumok’s new leadership.

A German-language tour of ‘Terminal Piece’ is scheduled for Sunday, 6 September, at 2 pm. An English-language tour of the exhibition will take place on Sunday, 13 September, at 2 pm. The German-language tour requires advance registration and is free with a valid exhibition ticket or annual pass.

September programming also includes Tolia Astakhishvili’s ‘Figure of the Child’, the artist’s first museum solo exhibition. The exhibition takes the “figure of the child” as its starting point, following a recurring motif in Astakhishvili’s work. In this context, the child stands for a being with substantial intellectual and creative autonomy that is also highly dependent on other people. German-language tours are scheduled for 5 and 19 September at 2 pm; an English-language tour will be held on 27 September at 2 pm.

Participatory stations in ‘Figure of the Child’ will run from 10 am to 6 pm on 6, 13, 20 and 27 September. Families with children aged three and above, young people and adults are invited to explore the exhibition through liquid paint, large-format paper, fabrics, stamps, figures and building blocks. Gouache sticks will be available at Astakhishvili’s eight-metre-long table, while other parts of the exhibition may be supplemented with drawings, lettering and messages. No registration is required.

On Friday, 11 September, Lotterientag will offer free tickets to mumok, the Leopold Museum and Kunsthalle Wien for visitors who present a product of the Austrian Lotteries at the MQ Point. Free tours of ‘Figure of the Child’ and ‘Terminal Piece’ will begin at 3 pm and 5 pm, respectively.
