Phoenix Art Museum will reopen its James K. Ballinger Wing with ‘A New Renaissance: Revisiting Old Masters’, an installation opening 26 September 2026 in the wing’s Wells Gallery. The presentation is scheduled to remain on view through October 2027.
The exhibition pairs historical European artworks from the museum’s collection with new contemporary acquisitions, tracing the evolution of artistic traditions across time and place. It brings Maria Kreyn’s atmospheric landscapes and swirling compositions into dialogue with William Hamilton’s 18th-century Neoclassical scene of wolves.
Also included is Henri Rousseau’s portrait of modernist painter Marie Laurencin, whose images of women were inspired by Sèvres porcelain. The exhibition culminates with work by Flora Yukhnovich, who reimagines traditional still-life painting and relationships to objects and luxury.
