The Philadelphia Museum of Art will present ‘Marcel Duchamp’ from October 10, 2026, through January 31, 2027, in the Main Building’s Dorrance Galleries and Galleries 281–283.
Described as the first major U.S. retrospective dedicated to Duchamp in more than 50 years, the exhibition will trace the artist’s career through a chronological display of more than 300 works, encompassing painting, sculpture, film, photography, printed matter, exhibition design and readymades.
Works on view will include ‘Nude Descending a Staircase (No. 2)’ (1912), ‘The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even’ (1915–23), ‘Fountain’ (1917), ‘L.H.O.O.Q.’ (1919), ‘Box in a Valise’ (1935–41) and ‘Étant donnés’ (1946–66).
The exhibition follows a presentation at the Museum of Modern Art in New York from April 12 through August 22, 2026. A version will be presented at the Grand Palais in Paris in spring 2027, co-produced by the Centre Pompidou and GrandPalaisRMN.
‘Marcel Duchamp’ is organized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York, with collaboration from the Centre Pompidou. Matthew Affron, Ann Temkin and Michelle Kuo are the exhibition’s curators.
