The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux is presenting ‘Jean Dupas & Co. The Great Art Deco’, the first retrospective dedicated to Jean Dupas (1882–1964). On view at the Galerie des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux from 26 June to 29 November 2026, the exhibition considers the Bordeaux-born painter, decorator, draughtsman and poster artist alongside artists in his circles.
The presentation surveys Dupas’s work through the 1940s, with a focus on the 1920s and 1930s. It brings together painting, sculpture, graphic arts and ceramics, and addresses the 1925 Exposition internationale des Arts décoratifs et industriels as well as the decoration of transatlantic liners. More than 100 works by Dupas are assembled in the exhibition.
Alfred Janniot, Lili Boulanger, Robert Pougheon, Jean Despujols, Pierre-Henri Ducos de la Haille, Pierre-Albert Bégaud, Raphaël Delorme, André Caverne, Jean Dunand and René Buthaud are among the artists evoked.
Sophie Barthélémy is general curator, with Margaux Wymbs as scientific curator and Louis Deltour as associate curator. A colloquium, organised with Université Bordeaux Montaigne and the Académie de France à Rome – Villa Médicis, will take place on 5 and 6 November 2026.
