‘Revolt in the Parlor: Escaping Victorian Taste’ opens at the Morse Museum in Winter Park, Florida, on Tuesday 13 October 2026, presenting more than 250 objects in three galleries that trace how artists and designers responded to a rapidly changing world over six decades, from 1890 to 1959. At the turn of the twentieth century, a surge of optimism inspired artists and designers to rethink the visual language of modern life; the fin de siècle sensibility, once defined by anxiety and decadence, shifted into a measured optimism as the new century began.
The exhibition takes its title from a 1969 book of lectures edited by Hugh F. McKean. No closing date has been announced.
Museum members are invited to preview the exhibition at the Fall Member Reception on Monday 12 October, from 5 to 7 p.m., at 445 N. Park Ave.
Among the works on view is ‘Beauty of Paris’, a bronze, ivory and onyx sculpture of about 1925 by Emmanuel Jules Joseph Cormier (1869–1950).
