Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in Móstoles is presenting ‘Tetuan, Tetuán, تطوان’, an exhibition by the Franco-German artist Adrian Schindler, from 9 July 2026 to 10 January 2027.
The exhibition centres on a film trilogy developed between 2018 and 2025 in Spain and Morocco. Installed within scenographic structures and shown alongside graphic works, the three films trace a practice that takes the form of films, performances, reading groups, round tables and installations.
‘Tetuan, Tetuán, تطوان’ addresses Spain’s colonial past in Morocco and its traces in contemporary society through an experimental collaborative methodology. Developed across three cities with Moroccan and Spanish cultural agents, its chapters consider Plaça Tetuan in Barcelona, Madrid’s Tetuán de las Victorias district and the Cine Español in Tetouan, Morocco. The project draws on readings, songs, informal conversations and fictional scenes staged at monuments, in streets, cafés and institutions.
The Barcelona chapter considers representation and mechanisms of domination, while the Madrid chapter addresses silenced historical events, their sociocultural repercussions, and resistance through song and music. The Tetouan chapter revisits Moroccan nationalist theatre works from the 1930s and examines their role in the independence movement in northern Morocco.
Produced with Centre d’art Le Lait in Albi, the exhibition will travel to Kulte Center for Contemporary Art & Edition in Rabat and later form part of Fotonoviembre 2027, organised by TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes. Curatorial accompaniment is by Jesús Alcaide and Nouha Ben Yebdri.
