Tacoma Art Museum in Tacoma, Washington, opens ‘Project NW: David Hytone’ on 17 September 2026. Organized by Tacoma Art Museum and curated by Ellen Ito, the exhibition is part of Project NW.
Tacoma-based artist David Hytone presents ‘The Lee Shore’, a site-specific installation that combines paintings with sculptural elements, ballasts and mechanisms. The work marks a new approach to Hytone’s ‘tchotchke’ series.
Hytone has described developing a visual language over the last decade through collage, paint transfer, and the methodical construction of images using castoffs and off-cuts from previous work. He connects this practice to “the oroboros-like relationship between experience, memory, and the self.”
An image associated with the exhibition identifies Hytone’s 2025 work ‘Help on the Way’ as acrylic and okawara on panel, measuring 14 by 12 inches.
