‘Giardini Tessuti. Dai manufatti storici a nuove narrazioni visive’ will run from 26 September 2026 to 23 May 2027 at the Museo della Cattedrale and Cathedral Portico in Lucca.
Conceived by illustrator and designer Margherita Tofanelli for the Cathedral Museum complex, the exhibition places Lucca silk artefacts in dialogue with contemporary graphic reinterpretations of their decorative repertory. It will be presented principally in the museum, with an introductory section in the Cathedral portico.
The project forms part of Giungla Fest, a contemporary-art festival organised by Associazione S.o.f.a. APS in collaboration with several organisations in the city. The exhibition opens on Saturday 26 September at 10am at the Oratory of San Giuseppe.
A renewed display of the museum’s liturgical textile vestments will also be visible from late September. The installation, centred largely in room 7, introduces a periodic rotation of the objects on display. Works shown to the public for the first time will include an 18th-century cope that belonged to Archbishop Bernardino Guinigi, a 16th-century chasuble orphrey, and a Spanish-made chasuble with a central leather embroidery orphrey.
