Castello di Rivoli to Reinstall Permanent Collection Around Arte Povera

Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea will undertake a multi-phase reinstallation of its permanent collection in 2026, placing Arte Povera at the centre of a new presentation of the museum’s holdings. The project is scheduled to begin on 27 March and continue through 31 December in the historic Edificio Castello at the museum in Rivoli, near Turin.

The reinstallation will occupy the first and second floors of the castle building, where the permanent collection is displayed. The museum describes the collection as a living body of material that is continually presented through new arrangements and routes, allowing visitors to encounter both recent acquisitions and works from its broader holdings. By the end of the year, the Arte Povera-focused project is expected to include monographic galleries devoted to pioneers of the movement, alongside works described by the museum as historically significant.

The spring 2026 displays will also extend beyond Arte Povera to include several important figures in Italian art. Works on view include Gino de Dominicis’s 'Senza titolo' (1967–1969); Emilio Vedova’s 'Da dove….. (1983-7-)' (1983), 'Da dove… (1984-1)' (1984) and 'Di umano ’85 – II –' (1985); Michelangelo Pistoletto’s 'Persone nere' (1984); and Marisa Merz’s 'Senza titolo' (1985).

The presentation will introduce Piero Gilardi’s 'Sulla riva del lago' (2005) at Castello di Rivoli for the first time. The work was recently donated to the museum by WSP Italia and Pietro Jarre. According to the museum, Gilardi had previously donated it as a gesture of thanks for collaboration during the years in which the PAV Parco Arte Vivente in Turin was being conceived. The work’s inclusion links the renewed collection display to the museum’s continuing record of acquisitions and institutional relationships.

The reinstallation forms part of a wider 2026 programme at Castello di Rivoli, while remaining distinct from the temporary exhibitions announced for other museum spaces. In the Manica Lunga, the museum is presenting Cecilia Vicuña’s 'El glaciar ido (The vanished glacier / Il ghiacciaio scomparso)', a new commission curated by Marcella Beccaria and scheduled from 29 April to 20 September. The programme also includes the September projects 'Inserzioni: Haris Epaminonda, Christelle Oyiri, Sung Tieu', 'Il Castello Incantato / The Enchanted Castle', and 'CONTINUO INFINITO PRESENTE | Omaggio a Remo Salvadori', as well as the tribute 'Giorgio Griffa: 90', developed with Fondazione Giorgio Griffa.

The permanent collection display is supported by Fondazione Arte CRT. Castello di Rivoli’s activities are supported primarily by Regione Piemonte, while the museum’s research centre, the CRRI, is supported by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. The Arte Povera-centred reinstallation will remain on view at the Edificio Castello from 27 March until 31 December 2026.
