Ron Mueck’s ‘Couple Under an Umbrella’ (2013) will go on view at ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum in Denmark from 12 September 2026, as part of the museum’s exhibition ‘Favourites from the Collection’. The presentation follows the loan of Mueck’s ‘Boy’ to the Netherlands and offers visitors a further opportunity to encounter the artist’s hyperrealist sculpture in Aarhus.
The work depicts an older couple standing beneath a parasol. According to ARoS, the figures are presented at twice human scale, with the detailed surfaces and finely observed human expressions associated with Mueck’s practice. The sculpture is credited to the Collection Museum Voorlinden, with co-Pictoright Amsterdam 2026 copyright and a photograph by Antoine van Kaam.
‘Favourites from the Collection’ brings together some of ARoS’s most prominent and widely appreciated works. The exhibition is presented on Level 1 of the Aarhus museum and is described as offering an overview of the collection across different periods, styles and forms of expression. The presentation places Mueck’s sculpture within a broader selection rather than treating it as a standalone exhibition.
The work’s arrival also marks a temporary change in the museum’s presentation of Mueck. ‘Boy’, identified by ARoS as one of its permanent works, is currently on loan to the Netherlands. The museum’s announcement characterises ‘Couple Under an Umbrella’ as another iconic work by the artist and as a rare chance to see it in Denmark.
ARoS will hold a members’ preview of ‘Favourites from the Collection’ on 10 September 2026 from 5pm to 8pm. The programme includes a welcome, the opening of the exhibition and an opportunity to meet its curator. The exhibition opens to the general public on Saturday, 12 September.
The museum’s related programme includes a Sunday tour of the exhibition on 13 September from 3pm to 3:45pm, an evening tour on 16 September from 7pm to 7:45pm, and a family tour on 19 September from 10:30am to 11:15am. The exhibition is scheduled to remain on view at ARoS in Aarhus through 29 August 2027.
