DC Moore Gallery will present ‘And Yet Again’, a solo exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by Katia Santibañez, in New York from September 3 through October 3, 2026. The exhibition will bring together abstract works built from vibrant color, repeated motifs and carefully ordered grids. An opening reception is scheduled for September 10 from 6 to 8pm.
Santibañez’s paintings continue an exploration of structure and order within the grid, a framework that first appeared in her work in 2007. According to the gallery, each composition begins with the construction of a geometric matrix that determines the size of the individual squares, some of which measure as little as half an inch. Within these sections, the artist paints recurring motifs she calls “spirals” or “pinwheels.”
The curling forms introduce a sense of movement into the paintings’ rigorous systems. Santibañez has described the spiral in relation to circular forms found in nature, including snail shells, tree-growth rings, flowers and vine tendrils. Across the new works, repetition is balanced by variation: the sequencing and selection of colors shift from one segment to the next, producing changing patterns and color vibrations within the grid.
The title ‘And Yet Again’ refers to the consistency of Santibañez’s method as well as to recurring cycles in life, time and nature. The gallery describes the new body of work as an investigation of the balance between order and disorder, with implications across political, environmental and psychological experience. Its all-over compositions are intended to encourage sustained looking, as viewers trace differences across surfaces that can initially appear uniform.
The exhibition includes oil paintings on canvas as well as works on paper in gouache, ink and pencil. Listed works include ‘OkeOhl’ (2025), an oil painting on canvas measuring 50 by 40 inches, and a number of 2025 and 2026 canvases ranging from smaller vertical compositions to square works measuring 60 by 60 inches. The presentation also includes 10-by-10-inch gouache works and drawings on paper.
Santibañez is an American artist born in France who studied painting at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Her work is held in public and private collections internationally, including the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the Morgan Library and Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She lives and works in Otis, Massachusetts, and New York City.
DC Moore Gallery, which specializes in contemporary and twentieth-century art, is located at 535 West 22nd Street in New York. ‘Katia Santibañez: And Yet Again’ will remain on view there through October 3, 2026.
