Underdogs has announced a forthcoming project by Brazilian artist duo OSGEMEOS in Lisbon as part of its Public Art Programme. The announcement, included in the platform’s September programme newsletter, identifies the project only as ‘OSGEMEOS in Lisbon’ and does not yet provide a date, artwork title, commission site or details of the installation.
The project is separate from the exhibitions and events scheduled at Underdogs Gallery during September. The Lisbon-based organisation describes itself as a cultural platform encompassing a gallery, a public-art programme, artist editions and commissioned art projects. Established in 2010 and consolidated in its present form in 2013, Underdogs works with Portuguese and international artists connected to what it calls the urban-inspired contemporary art universe.
The announcement places OSGEMEOS’ project among several strands of Underdogs’ autumn programme, but supplies no further information about its production or public presentation. It does not state whether the work will be temporary or permanent, identify the part of Lisbon where it will appear, or name any partner beyond Underdogs’ Public Art Programme. The newsletter’s principal gallery project for the month is Ana Malta’s ‘Troca o Passo’. Malta, who lives and works in Lisbon, works across painting, drawing and installation, with an emphasis on colour, pattern, composition and drawing materials. Her residency at Underdogs Gallery is scheduled for 4 September to 8 October, followed by an exhibition from 9 to 24 October. The gallery says the residency will begin without a predetermined theme or final outcome, allowing the artist’s process to determine the resulting works.
Underdogs will also participate in Festival Iminente from 17 to 20 September, presenting archival and new artworks in a dedicated space. A special edition by Vhils and Sam The Kid is scheduled for release exclusively at the festival on 17 September, while new editions by The Jaunt and Saman & Sasan Oskouei are due to be released through Underdogs’ online shop on 16 September before becoming available at the event. The programme will also include a The Jaunt exhibition curated by Underdogs.
The organisation is additionally listed as a participant at ARTePorto from 24 to 27 September. Underdogs Gallery is located at Rua Fernando Palha, Armazém 56, 1950-132, Lisbon, and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 2pm to 7pm. No opening schedule or venue information has yet been published for the OSGEMEOS project.
