Lena Granefelt to Explore Nature’s Hidden Worlds in ‘Natura Obscura’ at Abecita

Lena Granefelt will examine the concealed processes of the natural world in ‘Natura Obscura’, an upcoming photography exhibition at Abecita Popkonst & Foto in Borås, Sweden. The exhibition is scheduled to run from 24 September 2026 through 10 January 2027, with a vernissage on Thursday 24 September at 6.30 p.m.

Granefelt’s project focuses on forms of life and change that often escape ordinary observation. According to the exhibition announcement, her photographs address plant life after flowering, historical traces preserved in Carl von Linné’s herbarium, and the teeming micro-life found beneath the ground.

The exhibition places photography in dialogue with natural science and storytelling. Granefelt is described as working with the poetic possibilities of the image to make processes of transformation, decay and renewal visible. The presentation moves between the minute and the monumental, treating everyday natural phenomena as subjects that can appear unfamiliar as well as compelling.

‘Natura Obscura’ is part of a broader programme of forthcoming photography exhibitions at Abecita. The Borås institution, whose full name is Abecita Popkonst & Foto, presents exhibitions, a collection and photography-related events. Its current programme includes Hasse Persson’s retrospective ‘The Last Picture Show’, Caroline Roosmark’s ‘Sagolika kvinnor’ and Mikael Pilstrand’s ‘Horisont’, all closing on 19 September 2026, alongside Anna Lithander’s ‘Ögonblick du missade’, which runs to 10 January 2027.

The autumn programme also includes exhibitions by Jan M Lundahl and Johan Claesson, both announced for the same 24 September opening. Lundahl’s exhibition is devoted to photographs of Bruce Springsteen, whom he has followed with a camera for more than 25 years, while Claesson’s ‘Nuläge’ uses minimalist photographs of a bottle to explore emotional and existential states. A separate presentation, ‘Det kunde varit vi’, by Glada Hudik-teatern in collaboration with photographer Magnus Laupa, is scheduled to open on 8 October and run through 10 January.

Abecita Popkonst & Foto is located at Herrljungagatan 15 in Borås. The museum lists regular opening hours as Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with Mondays closed. ‘Natura Obscura’ will remain on view until 10 January 2027.
