Senior curator Sanna Moore will lead a walk-through of ‘Andy Warhol: Art Star’ at Wolverhampton Art Gallery on Wednesday 2 September, offering visitors an exhibition-focused introduction to the American artist’s work. The free talk runs from 11:30am to 12:30pm and is available with the purchase of a valid exhibition ticket.

The exhibition is presented by Wolverhampton Art Gallery as part of the ARTIST ROOMS programme, in partnership with Tate and National Galleries of Scotland. It runs from 23 May to 4 October 2026 and brings together works spanning Warhol’s career from the 1950s to the 1980s.

According to the gallery, the presentation includes drawings, screenprints, paintings and photographs, combining iconic and lesser-known works. Subjects include Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles and Elizabeth Taylor, alongside Warhol’s widely recognised ‘Campbell’s Soup’. The exhibition also includes ‘Campbell’s Soup’ (1968), credited to Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s collection.

Warhol (1928–1987) was a leading figure in the Pop Art movement and one of the most influential American artists to emerge in the post-war period. His work examined fame, celebrity and commercial culture, helping to establish images drawn from mass media and consumer life as central subjects for contemporary art. The gallery frames the exhibition around his rethinking of what art could be during a period of significant social, political and technological change.

ARTIST ROOMS presents solo exhibitions of international artists from a national touring collection jointly owned by Tate and the National Galleries of Scotland. The programme is developed through local partnerships and tours venues across the United Kingdom. At Wolverhampton, the Warhol exhibition is part of a wider programme of events, including a screening of Jonas Mekas’s ‘Scenes from the Life of Andy Warhol: Friendships & Intersections’ at Lockworks Cinema on 11 September and a separate ‘Warhol in Wolverhampton’ talk and tour led by Jon Sleigh at the gallery on 26 September.

Admission to ‘Andy Warhol: Art Star’ is £9 for adults, with concessions priced at £4.50. Children and young people under 21 enter free, as do Art Fund pass holders under the listed concession rate; friends of Wolverhampton Art Gallery also pay £4.50. The gallery will offer ‘pay what you can’ admission on Sunday 6 and Sunday 20 September. Moore’s curator-led event takes place at Wolverhampton Art Gallery on 2 September.
