Carré d’Art – Musée d’art contemporain de Nîmes will launch the first edition of ‘Publicare’, a festival devoted to artist multiples, artist publishing and micropublishing, in December 2026. The two-day event will take place at Carré d’Art in Nîmes on Friday 11 December and Saturday 12 December.
Coordinated by the contemporary art museum, the festival is being organised in partnership with the Nîmes library network and the École supérieure des Beaux-arts de Nîmes, known as ésban. The collaboration brings together a museum, public libraries and an art school around a programme focused on the relationship between art and publishing.
According to the museum’s announcement, ‘Publicare’ is conceived as an experimental setting for exploring the different forms that artist editions can take. The festival’s scope includes the multiple, artist books and other forms of micropublishing, although the announcement does not specify the participating artists, publishers or exhibitors.
The programme is also intended to extend beyond presentation and sales. Carré d’Art describes the event as a convivial gathering structured through encounters, readings, workshops and performances, alongside its focus on editions. The first festival day, Friday 11 December, will run from 2pm to 8pm. On Saturday 12 December, the programme will be open from 10am to 6.30pm. Both days are scheduled to take place at Carré d’Art – Musée d’art contemporain, Place de la Maison Carrée, 30000 Nîmes.
‘Publicare’ forms part of Carré d’Art’s existing engagement with artist publications.
