Templon Announces Representation of David Smalling

Templon has announced the representation of David Smalling. It will open on November 12th, 2026, following Smalling’s first exhibition at Templon New York in March 2026.

Smalling was born in 1987 in Kingston, Jamaica, and lives and works in New York City. He studied Mathematics at Yale University, where he also trained at the Yale School of Art, and holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University. His documented exhibition history includes 'Elizabethan Collar', which ran in New York from March 26 to April 25, 2026.

Drawing from the tradition of Mannerism and the Dutch Golden Age, Smalling’s paintings examine how contemporary social codes and gender norms shape identity and behavior. Through those scenes, he explores themes of belonging, aspiration, and restraint.

The Brussels exhibition follows the New York exhibition in the sequence stated by the announcement. That announcement gives the Brussels opening date as November 12th, 2026. Smalling’s stated academic background combines Mathematics at Yale University with training at the Yale School of Art and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. His paintings draw on Mannerism and the Dutch Golden Age while addressing contemporary social codes and gender norms.
