The Centro de Arte e Cultura in Évora is presenting 'Fernando Lemos: luz do olhar', an exhibition of photographs by Fernando Lemos that forms part of the commemorations for the centenary of his birth. The show, listed by the Fundação Eugénio de Almeida, runs from 28 March to 8 November 2026 in the Centro de Arte e Cultura’s Sala Rostrum, with free entry and opening hours from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 19:00.
According to the institution’s description, the exhibition gathers photographs made between 1949 and 1952, drawn from the collection of the Fundação Cupertino de Miranda. The selection is presented as a key body of work in modern Portuguese photography and in the surrealist experience in Portugal. The newsletter states that the images reveal an innovative approach to photography, using light, shadow and composition to explore imagination, the unconscious and identity.
The exhibition is shown in partnership with the Fundação Cupertino de Miranda. The newsletter also notes that the project is part of the Centenário do Nascimento de Fernando Lemos, and identifies him as a major figure in 20th-century Portuguese art. A separate page on the Fundação Eugénio de Almeida’s website gives his dates as 1926–2019 and describes the exhibition as an individual show curated by Marlene Oliveira.
The material highlighted in the newsletter focuses on portraits and images of people close to the artist. It refers to poets, artists, writers and actors whose faces emerge from the past through Lemos’s lens, including Sophia, Maria Helena, Arpad, Agostinho and José. The text says the artist photographed these figures in the intimacy of their studios and homes, on holiday, or during a simple walk, and presents the portraits as evidence not only of their faces but also of their complicity and humanity.
The exhibition sits within a broader cultural and educational programme at the Centro de Arte e Cultura, where the Fundação Eugénio de Almeida also lists other shows and activities for 2026. In the newsletter, the exhibition is framed as an opportunity to revisit stories, memories and encounters that cross time. The same notice says admission is free. The gallery page adds that the show is open to visitors in the Sala Rostrum at the Centro de Arte e Cultura, Largo Conde de Vila Flor, Évora, through 8 November 2026.
