Art Images Gallery will present a selection of sculptural woven works by South Australian artist Donna Gordge from 4 September to 4 October 2026. The exhibition will open on Friday 4 September from 6–8pm at the gallery in Norwood, South Australia.
Gordge’s practice draws on textile techniques and processes, but extends them beyond conventional textile materials and formats. Working with non-traditional materials, she creates three-dimensional forms that position weaving as a method of constructing sculptural objects rather than solely as a functional or surface-based practice.
According to the gallery, the works explore the relationship between loss, longing and the continuing evolution of identity. Memory, place and personal experience provide the conceptual framework for the selection, with Gordge using fragments of recollection and reflection as material for works described as both deeply personal and familiar.
The emphasis on woven construction places process at the centre of the exhibition. Gordge’s textile background informs the handling of structure, repetition and interconnection, while the use of unexpected materials shifts the work into a sculptural register. The gallery describes the resulting forms as distinctive, without specifying a single material or fixed visual style for the presentation.
Art Images Gallery’s exhibition programme spans painting, printmaking, sculpture, glass, ceramics, jewellery and objects. Its upcoming schedule for the same period also includes presentations by South Australian artists and makers working in painting, contemporary Aboriginal dot painting and glass, but Gordge’s exhibition is presented as a separate selection of sculptural woven works.
The exhibition will remain on view through 4 October 2026. Art Images Gallery lists its general opening hours as Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm; Saturday, 10am–5pm; and Sunday, 2–5pm.
