The M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum in Kaunas will host a lecture-and-film programme about Polish textile art experiments on 9 October 2026 at 16:00. The programme features lectures by speakers researching Polish art and textile history, who will present different aspects of the period.
The programme examines a period when textile moved beyond conventional material boundaries and became part of sculpture, space, architecture and the environment. It accompanies Barbara Kasten’s exhibition ‘Postabstraction’ and returns to an important episode in the artist’s biography: her work in Magdalena Abakanowicz’s studio in Poland during her 1971–72 Fulbright period. At that time, textile became an important field for experiments with material, sculpture and space in the Polish art scene.
Jędrzej Zakrzewski will discuss Krystyna Wojtyna-Drouet’s work, including her experiments with textile and material and the ways that everyday life, work and artistic independence intersect in her practice.
Karolina Łabowicz-Dymanus will examine Ewa Pachucka’s large-scale woven and crocheted works, in which textile becomes a sculptural and spatial structure. The lecture will address how Pachucka’s work connects textile with architecture, the environment and the viewer’s experience.
