Wysing Arts Centre will host the Bordeaux-based artist Boram Choi for a residency in winter 2026, the fifth edition of the Magnetic residencies programme run by Fluxus Art Projects. Wysing's own listing describes Choi as its Residency Artist 2026 and gives no start or end date beyond the season.
Magnetic is a Franco-British initiative that links ten institutions in a programme of residencies lasting two to three months each. Five are in France - Capc in Bordeaux, Frac Grand Large in Dunkirk, Frac Bretagne in Rennes, Villa Arson in Nice and Betonsalon - Centre for art and research in Paris - and five are in the United Kingdom: Wysing Arts Centre and Gasworks in England, Flax Art Studios in Northern Ireland, Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Wales and Cove Park in Scotland. Wysing states that the programme is intended to support artistic development through exchange and to build longer-term cooperation between the British and French visual arts scenes.
Choi works across painting, drawing, installation, weaving and lecture-performance, and has developed collective and curatorial projects with the association micromicro since 2023. Her practice also extends into mediation and teaching through workshops, school interventions and collaborative research projects. Wysing's residency page presents a group of her recent works from 2024 and 2025 alongside the announcement.
Wysing has not said whether the residency will lead to a public presentation, and no exhibition, performance or talk has been announced. Choi does not appear in the centre's separately announced 2026-27 residency cohort, which runs from April 2026 to March 2027 and includes Louise Ashcroft, Mariana Chkonia, Roo Dhissou, Va-Bene Elikem Fiatsi, Clara Hastrup, Pardip Kapil, Samra Mayanja, Umico Niwa, RESOLVE Collective and Ellie Wyatt. The Magnetic invitation sits alongside that programme as a separate strand supported by Fluxus Art Projects.
Choi follows Maeva Totolehibe, who held the Magnetic 4 residency at Wysing. The centre is based at Fox Road in Cambridgeshire, on the former Wysing Grange Farm that was bought in 1989 and converted into artists' studios; it became a registered charity in 1994 and opened a RIBA award-winning capital development in January 2008.
