Galería Gobernador in Mexico City opened ‘Tableaux Vivants’, a solo exhibition by Antoine Granier curated by David Ayala-Alfonso, on Saturday 22 August 2026. It was a double opening: Carlos Vielma’s ‘Tolvanera’ occupies the first room, Granier the second.
The show gathers Granier’s complete Super 8 video series of the same name, made between 2022 and 2023, together with works not previously exhibited. The gallery describes them as small grotesque scenes drawing on Georges Méliès, stage magic, clairvoyance and the circus, and as condensing film, sculpture and performance through artifice.
In his curatorial text, David Ayala-Alfonso places the series in the poetics of invention — lo-fi means, recycling and play — and reads it as a counterweight to the technological determinism of the present, borrowing the visual codes of the Belle Époque and the golden age of illusionism.
The gallery is at Gobernador José Luis Vieyra 21, San Miguel Chapultepec, Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico City. It lists the exhibition as on view and has published no closing date.
