The National Gallery of Canada has published a collection feature on Count de Montizón’s 1852 photograph ‘The Hippopotamus at the Zoological Gardens, Regent’s Park’, examining the early photographic techniques used to portray London Zoo’s first hippopotamus and the public fascination he inspired.

The National Gallery of Canada’s Library and Archives has published a magazine feature on the group of official Canadian postage stamps in its ephemera collection that reproduce works by artists also held in the Gallery’s own collection.

The National Gallery of Canada will present the 2026 Sobey Art Award Exhibition in collaboration with the Sobey Art Foundation, bringing together works by six artists shortlisted for the 2026 prize.
