Proyectos Monclova has announced its representation of Uruguayan visual artist Guillermo García Cruz, who will inaugurate his first exhibition with the Mexico City gallery on September 3, 2026. The announcement does not specify a title or closing date for the exhibition.

Born in Montevideo in 1988, García Cruz works across painting and sculpture. His practice examines the relationship between structure, perception and language within the tradition of Latin American geometric abstraction. Proyectos Monclova describes his work as engaging with the legacies of Concrete Art and Constructivism in the Southern Cone while reworking their formal principles through contemporary experiences of disorientation and digital mediation.

A central concept in the artist’s work is the “glitch,” which the gallery presents as a metaphor for the collapse of systems that once promised to organize modern life. His compositions incorporate visual references to digital devices and interfaces, reflecting the extent to which perception is shaped by screens and other technologies. In the gallery’s account, the interruption is both visual and conceptual: an instability introduced into geometric structures that might otherwise appear ordered and fixed.

The artist’s paintings and sculptures expand, fragment or shift across space. The gallery’s online presentation includes works from several related bodies of work, including the ‘Screen’ and ‘Wall’ series. Recent paintings such as ‘Screen XXV mpa’ (2025), an acrylic on canvas measuring 150 by 120 centimetres, and ‘Screen XXVI pma’ (2025), an acrylic work framed in cedar wood, use vertical rectangular forms associated by the gallery with the format of mobile-phone screens. Other listed works extend the practice into sculpture, including the stainless-steel ‘Pillar XXIVMI b’ (2024) and the hand-carved marble ‘Line XXIMVD c’ (2021).

García Cruz’s work has been presented at Art Basel Miami Beach, SP–Arte, Zona Maco and arteBA, according to the gallery. Proyectos Monclova also states that his work is held in public and private collections across the Americas, Europe and Asia. The artist lives and works between Miami and Budapest.

The first exhibition under the representation will take place at Proyectos Monclova Gallery at Calle Lamartine 415 in Polanco, Mexico City. The gallery lists opening hours as Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the exhibition is scheduled to begin on September 3, 2026.
