David Krut Arts will present ‘In Good Company’, a project conceptualised with artist Nkhensani Mkhari, at the FNB Joburg Art Fair. The presentation, listed for LAB #B, will centre on a new body of unique works on paper made by Mkhari at the David Krut Workshop, alongside works by other artists who have collaborated at the studio.
According to the announcement, those artists’ practices informed and inspired Mkhari during his own working process at the workshop. The presentation therefore places his recent experiments within the collaborative environment in which they were developed, bringing together works connected by their shared engagement with David Krut’s Johannesburg printmaking facilities. The announcement, issued on 26 August 2026, does not provide the fair’s exact dates.
One of the works identified for the presentation is ‘Earth’, made in 2026. Measuring 75 by 63.7 centimetres, the piece combines monotype, drypoint, silkscreen collage and handwork in mixed media. It is described as a unique work rather than an editioned print, reflecting the workshop’s broader emphasis on collaboration and process.
Mkhari, born in 1994, is described by David Krut Projects as a multidisciplinary artist and curator whose practice spans photography, painting, performance, sound design, new media, 3D scanning, sculpture and monotype printing. His work examines identity, subjectivity and the entangled nature of existence, drawing on Bantu cosmology and what the gallery calls a triadic understanding of being. The artist works across Johannesburg, Cape Town, Hamburg and Magoebaskloof.
The collaboration began after David Krut encountered Mkhari’s work at the Johannesburg Art Fair in 2024. Mkhari subsequently visited the David Krut Workshop at Arts on Main in December that year, where he worked on monotypes with printers Roxy Kaczmarek and Kim-Lee Loggenberg-Tim. He continued the collaboration in 2025, producing work that was shown at the David Krut Gallery in Johannesburg in March, in his first exhibition with David Krut Projects.
The workshop’s role in the project forms part of David Krut’s longer history of artist-printer collaborations in Johannesburg. Its collaborators have included artists working across painting, sculpture, photography and printmaking, including Mary Sibande, Boemo Diale, Heidi Fourie, Nathaniel Sheppard III and William Kentridge. A separate Open City Art Week programme at Arts on Main is scheduled for 29 August through 4 September, with visitors invited to observe artists working with printers from 1 to 3pm on selected days. The programme is distinct from the FNB Joburg Art Fair presentation and includes a live workshop session with Mkhari and Sibande on 31 August.
