John Singleton Copley

John Singleton Copley was an American-born British painter known for his portraits and history paintings. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and later moved to London in 1774, where he achieved success as a portrait artist. His work was notable for its depiction of modern subjects and dress. In his later years, his career declined, and he died heavily in debt.
