Kingdom of Italy, 1884–1920
Amedeo Modigliani was an Italian painter and sculptor associated with the École de Paris, who worked mainly in France. He is known for his modern style portraits and nudes featuring surreal elongation of facial and bodily features. Modigliani studied art in Italy before moving to Paris in 1906, where he engaged with artists such as Pablo Picasso and Constantin Brâncuși. By 1912, he exhibited stylized sculptures with the Cubists of the Section d'Or group.
