Gallerie d'Italia - Torino is showing 'Nick Brandt. The Day May Break. La luce alla fine del giorno' until 6 September 2026, having opened on 18 March, and brings together for the first time all four chapters of Nick Brandt’s ongoing project 'The Day May Break'. In its closing weeks, the exhibition, curated by Arianna Rinaldo, is described by the museum as a photographic series of around 60 works that examines the effects of climate change, environmental degradation and devastation on people and animals.

The show centers on Brandt’s sustained focus on ecological collapse and its unequal impact on the world’s most vulnerable communities. According to the museum, 'The Day May Break', begun in 2020, places people and animals in the same frame to underline the relationship between human lives, wildlife and the changing environment. The exhibition title in Italian, 'La luce alla fine del giorno', frames the project’s outlook as severe but still marked by a sense of hope.

The first two chapters, 'Chapter One' and 'Chapter Two', were made in Kenya and Zimbabwe in 2021, and in Bolivia in 2022. The museum says these sections present powerful portraits of people and animals affected by extreme drought or flooding that destroyed homes and livelihoods. The photographs were made in sanctuaries and reserves where animals had survived habitat destruction and illegal wildlife trafficking.

'Chapter Three - SINK / RISE' was created in Fiji in 2023 and turns to the rising seas through submerged portraits. The museum says the images offer a symbolic, pre-apocalyptic view of communities that may lose homes, land and identity as water levels rise. 'Chapter Four - The Echo of Our Voices', made in the Jordanian desert in 2024, depicts refugee families who left Syria because of war and remain in conditions of displacement in an arid landscape shaped in large part by climate change.

Brandt, born in London in 1964, has for more than two decades concentrated on the effects of environmental destruction and climate collapse on both vulnerable populations and the natural world, according to the museum’s biographical note. His earlier work includes the East Africa trilogy 'On This Earth, A Shadow Falls, Across The Ravaged Land' (2001–2012), followed by the panoramically staged series 'Inherit the Dust' (2016) and 'This Empty World' (2019), both also made in East Africa.

At Gallerie d'Italia - Torino, the four chapters of 'The Day May Break' are being shown together, with the last chapter commissioned by Intesa Sanpaolo. The museum lists ticket prices at 12 euros full, 10 euros reduced, and 6 euros for Intesa Sanpaolo group customers, with free admission for affiliated visitors, schools, under-26s and on the first Sunday of every month. A special reduced price of 5 euros is available for PASS EXPOSED holders from 10 April to 2 June 2026.
