Tel Aviv Artists House will open 'Tehila', a solo exhibition by Hila Emanuel, on 13 August 2026, presenting black-and-white photographs of leading figures in Israeli culture in an intimate studio setting. The exhibition runs until 5 September 2026 and is part of a wider August programme announced by the venue, which also includes several other concurrent shows.

According to the exhibition text, Emanuel spent five years documenting singers and performers who have left a mark on Israeli cultural life. Rather than photographing them on stage, in concert halls or before an audience, she brought them into the studio and worked in a more direct and personal encounter with the camera. The resulting portraits are framed as studies of the space between public recognition and private presence.

The project is described as one that reflects on how fame can obscure the individual behind it. The exhibition text notes that some faces are known before they are ever met, through voices, songs and the way they become woven into collective memory. In that sense, 'Tehila' treats celebrity not simply as visibility, but as a layered condition in which the person and the cultural myth gradually merge. Emanuel’s photographs seek to hold both at once.

The visual language is anchored in black and white and in the relationship between light and shadow. The exhibition text presents that choice as conceptual as well as formal: light reveals the present, vulnerable and human presence of the subject, while shadow carries the weight of years and accumulated cultural meaning. The portraits are not limited to likeness, but aim to gather experience, memory and the emotional histories attached to each figure.

The works are printed on large aluminium panels, giving the photographs a monumental physical presence while preserving an impression of closeness. The exhibition text emphasizes that the viewer is invited to stand before familiar faces and encounter them anew, beyond the screen of fame. Emanuel’s approach, as presented by the gallery, is shaped by a deep emotional familiarity with Hebrew music, yet it avoids both hero worship and myth-busting. Instead, it offers a space in which public stature and human fragility remain in view together.

Tel Aviv Artists House’s August programme places 'Tehila' alongside other exhibitions by Israeli artists opening the same evening, including 'This Is What It Is' by Yitzhak Jacobs, 'Meeting Within a Meeting' by Roni Shahaf, 'The Yellow Stork' by Zohar Morag, 'Views' by Ofer Par, 'Let the Sun Stand Still' by Gabriella Saikevitch and 'Landscapes of Time' by Hanna Shuily. The venue says the openings take place on Thursday, 13 August 2026 at 7 p.m., with free admission, and 'Tehila' continues through 5 September at 2 p.m.
