Madrid’s annual MADO Madrid Orgullo festival produced an estimated 1.1241 billion euros in consumer spending across the city during its 2026 edition, according to a new report released by the city’s Department of Economy, Innovation and Finance. The figure covers the festival period from 26 June to 5 July and marks a 1.4 percent increase from the previous year and a 4.6 percent rise, or 49.4 million euros, compared with a standard equivalent period.

The city government said the estimate comes from its report 'Gasto en consumo – Festival MADO 2026', which uses statistical information drawn from anonymised and aggregated data on a portion of card transactions processed through point-of-sale terminals. The report was published on 9 August 2026.

According to the city’s summary, the spending boost during the festival translated into a total economic impact of 82.7 million euros on Madrid’s production value. Engracia Hidalgo, the councillor responsible for Economy, Innovation and Finance, said the result reflected the strong reception of an initiative that draws large audiences from around the world and is visible in the citywide spending balance.

The report shows that tourism accommodation accounted for the largest share of spending during the festival, at 25.9 percent of the total. Restaurants followed with 17.4 percent, while department stores represented 7.3 percent. Other major categories included food, health services and transport. The average transaction value during the period was 30.4 euros, up 4.7 percent from a standard period.

The city also highlighted the international profile of the event. Foreign visitors accounted for 44 percent of total spending, ahead of Madrid residents at 30.8 percent, visitors from the rest of Spain at 16.8 percent and those from the rest of the Community of Madrid at 8.4 percent. Among foreign visitors, Ireland and the United States accounted for the largest shares of spending, at 18.8 percent and 16.2 percent respectively.

Spending was concentrated in Madrid’s central districts, led by Centro, which accounted for 17.3 percent of the total. Chamberí, Chamartín and Salamanca also ranked among the top areas. The strongest increases compared with the reference period were recorded in Barajas, Carabanchel and Vicálvaro. The festival ran from 26 June to 5 July 2026 in Madrid.
