The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art will open ‘Nicole Banowetz: The Intervening Substance’ on September 3, 2026, presenting an installation shaped by imagery from deep-sea and micro-organic worlds. The exhibition runs through December 18, 2026, at the museum in Logan, Utah.
According to the museum’s exhibition materials, Banowetz’s work is inspired by the natural world and uses animal, plant, mineral and bacterial imagery to address human qualities and relationships. In ‘The Intervening Substance’, the forms draw on the silica skeletons of radiolarians and deep-sea jellies, creatures described by the museum as living in one of the most mysterious and unexplored realms on earth, the deepest parts of the ocean.
The exhibition’s stated focus places Banowetz’s sculptural practice in a broader environmental frame. The museum says the installation reveals some of the life that surrounds us and is intended to remind viewers of how much there is to protect in the environment. The work pictured for the exhibition is ‘The Intervening Substance’ (2026), made with nylon fabric and blowers and described as variable in dimensions.
Banowetz works across sculpture, design, installation and education. The museum notes that she earned a BFA in sculpture from Colorado State University in 2004 and has lived and worked internationally, creating and/or showing work in India, Italy, Ireland, Russia, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Taiwan and England. Her exhibition history listed by the museum includes the Biennial of the Americas, the Museum of Outdoor Arts, the Arvada Center, Ironton Gallery, OpenART, Pirate Contemporary, Gray Contemporary, Saginaw Valley State University Art Gallery and the Kreuzburg Pavilion.
The NEHMA announcement appears alongside a fuller season of fall programming and exhibitions at the museum. In the same August newsletter, the museum also highlighted ‘One Thing After Another: Karen Carson Retrospective’, opening August 25, 2026, and ‘Pixelated: Mike Whiting’, opening September 3, 2026. The newsletter noted that the museum is currently operating with adjusted campus access because of USU road construction on 700 North (Aggie Boulevard), requiring entry from the west side of Aggie Boulevard.
‘Nicole Banowetz: The Intervening Substance’ is scheduled as a temporary exhibition at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, 650 North 1100 East, Logan, Utah, from September 3 through December 18, 2026.
