Línea 12, a Madrid band formed by young musicians from Fuenlabrada, has won the third edition of the Microconcerts Contest 'Destino San Cayetano' and will perform during the San Cayetano festivities on 7 August in Madrid. The group was selected from a field that the City of Madrid’s Centro district said included around 200 proposals, and emerged first after a process that began with 16 shortlisted acts and four semifinals.
The contest is presented by the Junta Municipal de Centro in collaboration with the Asociación de Vecinos La Corrala, with the stated aim of giving visibility to emerging musical talent and bringing culture into public space. According to the city’s account, the semifinal rounds were held on 23 and 30 May and 13 and 21 June, before the final on 26 July in Calle Argumosa, coinciding with the XLIV Trofeo de San Lorenzo.
The jury, made up of representatives from the Centro district, La Corrala and the public, awarded the first prize to Línea 12. David Muntané took second prize, while Orquestina Radio Sordina received the audience award. The three finalists were joined in the final by Bisonte, another act featured in the competition’s coverage.
Línea 12 describes its style as 'pop n’ roll', combining classic rock force with pop melodies. The group says its work draws on influences including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pereza, Los Rodríguez, M-Clan and Leiva, and that its songs often begin with acoustic ideas before being developed collectively. The band’s lineup is Luis and Dani on vocals and guitar, Figue on lead guitar, Alberto on keyboards, Pablo on bass and Gabri on drums.
In the interview material published by the city, the group said it wants to defend rock and roll’s energy and youthfulness while writing about real stories and everyday experiences. The band also stressed the value of human-made music at a time of growing debate around artificial intelligence, saying it aims to create songs that feel authentic and recognisable to listeners from its own generation.
The victory was unexpected for the group, which said it had entered the contest after seeing the call online and decided to “try its luck.” The musicians said being chosen for the final and then winning the competition had become a major opportunity, especially because they see the contest as a way for self-financed emerging artists to find performance space and public attention.
Línea 12’s San Cayetano appearance is scheduled for 7 August as part of the festivities in Madrid. In their own description of the coming performance, the band promised a set designed for the crowd to “have a good time, dance, sing” and celebrate the city’s summer festival atmosphere, with the concert due to take place in Plaza de Cascorro.
