The Brandenburgisches Landesmuseum für moderne Kunst is presenting ‘Alles Gute, lieber Hans’ at the Dieselkraftwerk Cottbus to mark the 75th birthday of the Cottbus artist Hans Scheuerecker. The exhibition runs from May 30 to August 23, 2026, and brings together works from the museum’s own collection with selected loans from private collections.

According to the BLMK, the show offers a concentrated view of Scheuerecker’s varied oeuvre through paintings, graphics, posters and sculptural works made across different phases of his career. The exhibition is built around holdings that the museum says have been assembled gradually and systematically since the 1970s, creating a survey that spans nearly 50 years of artistic development.

The exhibition text highlights both continuity and change in Scheuerecker’s work. It notes shifts toward more graphic and schematic pictorial gestures and an increasing focus on clear primary colors. The museum also points to his early engagement with art-historical iconographies, stylistic influences and the formal vocabulary of the early 20th century, especially expressive tendencies that later give way to formal reduction and color-based articulation.

Despite those changes, the museum says the human figure remains a constant in Scheuerecker’s work, presented in what it describes as all its existential shades. That emphasis gives the exhibition a retrospective shape without turning it into a simple chronology: the display is designed to show how recurring themes coexist with formal experimentation over time.

The BLMK’s newsletter describes the exhibition as part of its August programming in Cottbus, where ‘Alles Gute, lieber Hans’ sits alongside other current presentations at the Dieselkraftwerk, including ‘Fragmente eines Wegs’ by Chris Hinze, ‘Aufnahmezustand. Sammlungszugänge aus den Jahren 2021–2025’, and ‘Fremde und Freiheit. Mona Höke und Kathrin Karras. Pückler – Dialog über einen Kosmopolit’. Those listings, however, remain separate from the Scheuerecker exhibition itself.

A guided tour of ‘Alles Gute, lieber Hans’ is scheduled for August 6 at 3 p.m. with Ulrike Kremeier, with admission including the tour priced at 5.50 euros. The museum’s website lists the venue as the Dieselkraftwerk, Uferstraße/Am Amtsteich 15, 03046 Cottbus, with regular opening hours Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
