The exhibition ‘Fons Hickmann Plakate von heute und davor’ will take place at the Dieselkraftwerk Cottbus from 3 October to 6 December 2026, according to the listed exhibition dates and venue.
The museum had already begun collecting Hickmann’s work at an early stage; more recently, an extensive donation from the artist has caused the collection to grow into a meaningful corpus.
Spanning three decades, the solo exhibition concentrates on Hickmann’s poster practice, including posters produced under his sole authorship as well as those created in the context of an agency.
Since the 1990s, his graphic work has followed the principle that no project is like another and that, consequently, every project deserves its own aesthetic: “Kein Projekt ist wie das andere und so ist es nur konsequent, dass jedes Projekt seine, ihm eigene Ästhetik verdient.”
His work also includes an early teaching practice, with teaching undertaken first, among other places, in Vienna and continuing to the present at the UdK Berlin.
