The Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art has made its 2025 exhibition ‘Between Memories and Objects: Monument, Museum, Archive’ available in the ART360° project, which records exhibitions in VR360°. The museum announced the online presentation on 1 August 2026, directing viewers to the art archive platform and noting that the exhibition catalogue is also on sale through the museum’s online shop, ‘339’.
The ART360° page dates the exhibition to 21 June–15 September 2025 and identifies Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art as the host venue. The project’s VR presentation offers a way to revisit the full exhibition remotely, extending access to a show originally framed around Hiroshima’s wartime and postwar memory.
According to the ART360° description, ‘Between Memories and Objects’ examined the relationship between the memory of war and the atomic bombing, and the objects through which those memories are formed and carried forward. The exhibition looked closely at the former monuments once situated on Hijiyama, where the museum is located, including bronze statues made during the war and the artists who made them, as well as statues rebuilt after the war. Through those examples, the exhibition considered processes of formation, forgetting and reconstruction in collective memory.
The show also brought together artists whose work engages with monuments, museums and archives as agents of memory. ART360° says the exhibition invited viewers to think about how the past can be understood in continuity with the present, and how artistic practice can enter into dialogue with earlier acts and histories. The museum’s own collection was also part of the exhibition’s structure, linking contemporary presentation with historical material held in the institution.
The ART360° listing divides the exhibition into three parts: ‘From the Empty Pedestal on Hijiyama’, ‘Dialogue with the Past’ and ‘From the Hiroshima MoCA Collection’. The first section names Ueda Naotsugu, Yoshida Seirō and Aoyama Saburō. The invited-artist section includes Kuroda Daisuke, Dokuyama Bonatarō, Tsutaya Raku, Fiona Amundsen, and Haruka Komori + Natsumi Seo. The collection section lists Tange Kenzo, Isamu Noguchi, Shima Shūichi, Cho Tokuhyun, Henry Moore, Maruki Iri + Maruki Toshi, and Onishiki Kan.
The museum’s announcement did not add new exhibition dates, but it pointed audiences to the VR archive and to the catalogue, which remains available online. The ART360° page also identifies Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art as the organiser and gives the venue as Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, with cover photo credit to Kenichi Hanada.
