Kunsthal Rotterdam will mark midsummer with a Summer Party on Friday, 17 July, a ticketed evening that combines food, drinks, music, workshops and access to seven exhibitions across the museum. The event runs from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kunsthal Rotterdam in Museumpark, with regular tickets priced at €12.50 and free admission for youth up to 18, Rotterdampas holders, VriendenLoterij VIP-Kaart holders, Museumkaart holders and Kunsthal members.

The museum is framing the evening as both a social gathering and an invitation to explore its current programme. According to Kunsthal’s event page and newsletter, all seven exhibition halls will be open during the party. Among the highlights are Flowers Forever, a wide-ranging exhibition on the cultural history of the flower, and Helen Levitt, which looks at the photographer’s New York street scenes. The programme also includes The Grand Summer Hut by graphic artist Teuntje Fleur, described by the museum as a playful installation that invites visitors to wander, build and play.

The Summer Party is part of a broader summer season at the Kunsthal that blends exhibition viewing with public participation. The museum’s listings show Flowers Forever running from 27 March to 30 August 2026, Helen Levitt from 30 May to 4 October 2026, and The Grand Summer Hut from 4 July to 30 August 2026. The museum says the event will feature guided tours, walk-in tours and workshops, turning the exhibition visit into a more interactive evening format than the usual museum outing.

Two workshops are central to the programme. Studio Katja Gruijters will lead a Flowers Forever Design Workshop, where participants can create a floral design in glass and take home a jar filled with preserved flowers. Studio Tizi will offer a fashion workshop in which visitors make a floral brooch using sequins made from recycled materials, turning repurposed fabrics and materials into wearable works of art. The museum also says DJ Git Hyper will provide music throughout the evening.

Accessibility is built into the summer schedule as well. Kunsthal is offering a guided tour in Dutch sign language for Flowers Forever on Sunday, 12 July, ahead of the party. The 90-minute tour is intended for deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors, as well as hearing companions accompanying them, and is led by guide Kirsten de Ven. The museum also lists walk-in tours for Flowers Forever on Sunday, 2 August, showing how the summer programme extends beyond the party itself.

The event matters because it reflects a growing museum strategy: not just presenting exhibitions, but building public life around them. Flowers Forever is presented by Kunsthal as the first comprehensive cultural-historical overview of the flower in the Netherlands, bringing together more than 200 objects from art, design, fashion and science. By pairing that exhibition with social programming, accessible tours and hands-on workshops, the museum is positioning summer attendance as an active, communal experience rather than passive viewing. In a season when many institutions seek to broaden audiences, Kunsthal’s Summer Party underscores how exhibition-making, access and hospitality can be made to work together.
